I like to go by a few general
1. When hanging a fixture above a dining table the bottom of the fixture should be around 30" from the table.
2. When hanging pendants in a hall/entryway or a place where someone will be walking under it, the bottom should be no less than 7' from the floor.
3. A pendant above a kitchen island or peninsula the bottom should be approximately 6' from the floor.
4. Using two smaller chandeliers for a long dining room table always looks great.
5. For an average size dining table the chandelier should be around 12" narrower than the width of the table.
Although keeping all that in mind rules are meant to be broken and I love to play with scale and push the envelope to make a space feel truly unique.

ReplyDeleteIs that Ikea light a current item - do you know? Do you remember how much? It might work in my den.

ReplyDeleteYes, the Ikea pendant is $99.00 and it's called the Ikea PS Maskros. Hope that helps!
